Nyanza District Education Office looks after 76 schools offering Primary education, including 16 which have been extended to provided for the Nine Year Basic Education policy recently introduced and 20 Secondary school specialising in areas such as language, science, maths and practical skills such as electronics, public works and secretarial.

The District intends to build 30 primary schools and 15 secondary schools and it also intends to build nursery classrooms.

The teacher to child ratio reduced from 1:69 to 1:60 and the District wants to reduce it further. The District also intends to put at least 3 secondary schools in each of the District's 10 sectors.

The District has injected more than 8.709.200 Frw in the education sector this year, contributing 82% of the projected amount.
